Mikhaleva /\nMarina B. Tairova /\nОlga I. Patsap /\nOvarian endometriosis is the most common and ambiguous form of endometriosis in general. While the majority of endometrial localisations belong to tumour-like conditions, endometrioid ovarian cysts, according to the histological classification of female reproductive organs (WHO, 2014, 4th edition) are referred to endometrioid tumours with the appearance of the term «endometrioma». It is ovarian endometrioma that poses the highest risk for malignization through the phase of atypical endometriosis. Besides, the ability of an endometioma to «absorb» the functional tissue of an ovary enhances the medical and social significance of the problem of ovarian endometriosis.
