TVS has improved the accuracy of evaluation of pelvic masses and affords a means for accurate guided aspiration. The accuracy of follicular monitoring and aspiration is also enhanced with transvaginal sonography. The possible applications of transvaginal sonography as a means for screening for early ovarian carcinoma is also discussed as well as applications involving evaluation of the uterus and endometrium.\nSimilar content being viewed by others\nReferences\nFleischer AC, Gordon AN, Entman SS: Transabdominal and transvaginal sonography of pelvic masses.Ultrasound Med Biol 15:529, 1989\nLande IM, Hill JC, Cosco FE, Kator NN: Adnexal and culde-sac abnormalities: Transvaginal sonography.Radiology 166:325–332, 1988\nTessler FN, Schiller VL, Perrella RR, Sutherland ML, Grant EG: Transabdominal versus endovaginal pelvic sonography: Prospective study.Radiology 170:553–556, 1989\nMendelson EB, Bohm-Velez M, Joseph N, Neiman HL: Endometrial abnormalities: Evaluation with transvaginal sonography.AJR 150:139–142, 1988\nGordon A, Fleischer A, Reed G: Depth of myometrial invasion in endometrial cancer: Pre-operative assessment by transvaginal ultrasonography.Gynecol Oncol, 1991 (in press)\nWelker B, Gembruch U, Diedrich K, Al-Hasani S, Krebs D: Transvaginal sonography of the endometrium during ovum pickup in stimulated cycles for in vitro fertilization.J Ultrasound Med 8:549–553, 1989\nFleischer AC, Pennell RG, McKee MS,et al: Ectopic pregnancy: Features at transvaginal sonography.Radiology 174:375–378, 1990\nGoswamy RK, Williams G, Steptoe PC: Decreased uterine perfusion—A cause of infertility.Human Rep 3:955–959, 1988\nBourne T, Campbell S, Steer C, Whitehead MI, Collins WP: Transvaginal colour flow imaging: A possible new screening technique for ovarian cancer.Br Med J 229:1367, 1989\nKurjak A, Zalud I, Jurkovic, Alfirevic Z, Miljan M: Transvaginal color Doppler assessment of pelvic circulation.Acta Obstet Gynecol Scand 68:131–135, 1989.\nFleischer A, Rao B, Kepple D: Transvaginal color Doppler sonography: Preliminary experience.Dyn CV Imaging 3:52–57, 1970\nRodriquez M, Platt L, Medearis A, Lacarra M, Lobo R: The use of transvaginal sonography for evaluation of postmenopausal ovarian size and morphology.Am J Obstet Gynecol 159:810, 1988\nFleischer AC, Gordon AN, Kepple DM, Jones HW, James AE: Transvaginal sonography of postmenopausal ovaries with pathologic correlation.J Ultrasound Med 9:637–640, 1990\nCampbell S, Bhan V, Toyston P, Whitehead MI, Collins WP: Transabdominal ultrasound screening for early ovarian cancer.Br Med J 299:1363, 1989\nNovak E, Woodruff J (eds):Novak’s Gynecologic and Obstetric Pathology. 7th ed.
