It primarily occurs in the age group of 35 years in parous women. It is associated \nwith menorrhagia (70%), pelvic endometriosis (40%), and dysmenorrhoea. These are the chief \ncomplaints. And this condition requires surgical intervention to attain a cure, whereas homoeopathic \nMateria Medica consists of remedies which help in treating this condition without taking any surgical \npain\n. \n \nKeywords: Adenomyosis, Parous women, menorrhagia, dysmenorrhoea, homoeopathic indications \n \nIntroduction \nAdenomyosis, which is also called endometriosis internal. And in this condition, there is \ningrowth of the endometrium i.e. both the glandular and stromal components, directly into \nthe myometrium [1]. \n \nCauses \nThe cause of such a condition is not known. It is commonly in women with increased parity, \nit can be due to repeated childbirths (or) due to the effects of excess estrogen, and vigorous \ncurettage [1]. \n \nPathology \n It can affect the anterior and posterior walls, but the posterior wall is most commonly \naffected. \n In about 60% of women with this condition, have coexistent pathology like \nendometriosis (or) endometrial hyperplasia, Myoma. \n In the endometrium, the growth and tissue reaction depends upon the ectopic \nendometrial tissue response to the ovarian steroids. \n The tissue reaction is much less, when the basal layer is only present, which is \nunresponsive to hormones. \n And the tissue reaction is much marked, when the functional zone is present, which is \nresponsive to hormones. \n The diffuse enlargement of the uterus is due to myometrial hyperplasia, which is \nsymmetrical. But at times, it is more on the posterior wall. And this growth can be \nlocalized (or) may invade a polyp [1]. \n \nSymptoms \nThis condition is usually seen in parous women around the age of 40 years \nSome women are asymptomatic and others present with symptoms like…. \n Menorrhagia: Abnormal heavy menstrual bleeding. \n Dysmenorrhoea: progressively increased painful menstruation. \n Backache \n Due to an enlarged and tender uterus, there is a frequency of urination (or) Dyspareunia. \n Infertility: There is a higher incidence of infertility and miscarriage in women with \nAdenomyosis [1, 2]. \n \nPhysical Examination: \n If the patient comes with a history of menorrhagia with accompanying dysmenorrhoea \nOne should consider the possibility of Adenomyosis [2]. \n\n\nInternational Journal of Homoeopathic Sciences https://www.homoeopathicjournal.com \n~ 90 ~ \n On abdominal examination, a hypogastric mass may be \nrevealed, arising out of the pelvis and occupying the \nmidline. The size of the uterus usually doesn’t exceed a \npregnant uterus of 14 weeks [1]. \n On pelvic examination: the uniform enlargement of the \nuterus is revealed during a pelvic examination \n The findings might be altered due to associated pelvic \nendometriosis (or) fibroids [1]. \n \nInvestigations \n USG–lower abdomen shows the location and size of the \nendometriosis Interna (Adenomyosis). \n MRI: Shows the asymmetrical thickness of the uterus \n(posterior > anterior) \n Small myometrial hypoechoic cysts which give a \nhoneycomb appearance \n And J- Z Thickness is >=12 mm. \n The uterus is globally enlarged [1]. \n \nRepertorial View \nBoericke Repertory \n Female Sexual System: Menorrhagia-(Profuse, \nPremature flow) page no: 1123 \n Female Sexual System-Dysmenorrhoea–Page No: 1122 \n Urinary System-frequent, Desire page no: 1083 \n Locomotor System-Aching, dull, constant (Backache)-\nPage No: 1168 [13]. \n \nClarke Repertory \n Menorrhagia–page no 75 \n Dysmenorrhoea–page no 36 [4] \n \nKent Repertory \n Genitalia Female: Menses, painful, dysmenorrhoea \npage: 727 \n Genitalia Female: Heaviness –uterus–menses during; \nPage No: 719 \n Genitalia Female: Congestion–uterus–Page No: 716 \n Genitalia Female: Vaginismus Page No:745 \n Genitalia Female: Abortion Page No 715 \n Genitalia Female: Sterility page no 744 \n Bladder: Urination, frequent page: 657 [5] \n \nHomoeopathic Therapeutics \nHomoeopathic Materia Medica consists of very effective \nremedies for treating this condition. So on the basis of \nsymptoms similarity, we can prescribe medicines \n1. Aletris Farinosa: It is indicated, that menses- too soon \nwith colic, and light coloured with a cough before \nmenses.For premature profuse menses with labour-like \npains; Menorrhagia, profuse, black with coagula; \nfullness and weight in the lower abdomen. Tendency to \nhabitual abortion; sensation of weight in the uterine \nregion and also the tendency to prolapse [4]. \n2. Trillium Pendulum: It is indicated for uterine \nhaemorrhages, with the sensation as though hips and \nback were falling to pieces, better by tight bandages. \nOn least movement, there is gushing of bright blood \nfrom the uterus. Flow returns every two weeks [3, 4] . \nMetrorrhagia at climacteric. Haemorrhage from fibroids \nFor threatened abortion at 3 rd month. For antepartum \nHaemorrhage and also for postpartum Haemorrhage, it \nis indicated. \n \n3. Rosmarinus Officinalis: It is indicated for menses –too \nearly with violent pains followed by uterine \nhaemorrhage and miscarriage succeeded by faintness [4]. \n4. Medorrhinum: It is when menses are offensive, \nprofuse, dark, clotted, stains are difficult to washout, \nurinates frequently at that time for sterility, it is \nindicated for Metrorrhagia and intense menstrual colic. \nIt is indicated [3]. \n7. Viburnum Opulus: Menses began ten days early \n(always regular before); pain in back and cramps lasted \nthroughout the period. For spasmodic and membranous \ndysmenorrhoea. \nWhen attempting to sit up-she faints. It is indicated for \nsterility as a result of frequent and very early \nmiscarriage. \n8. Sepia: Menses too late and scanty, irregular, early and \nprofuse; sharp clutching pains. \nViolent stitches upward in the vagina, from the uterus \nto the umbilicus. The vagina is painful; especially on \ncoition. It is indicated for menses –profuse and colic \nbefore menses. Tendency to abort 5th to 7th month [3]. \n9. Lachesis: Climacteric troubles, palpitation flashes of \nheat, for haemorrhages. For coccyx and sacrum pain, \nespecially on rising from a sitting posture. Menses continue too long. For \nmiscarriage especially in the 3rd month [4]. \n \nConclusion \nThis review article is about, how homoeopathic remedies \nare effective in managing and curing surgical diseases like \nAdenomyosis. Surgery is the usual choice of treatment for \nAdenomyosis in the conventional mode of treatment. After \nhormonal therapy and hysterectomy, side effects are \nnumerous, and surgical diseases like Adenomyosis can be \ntreated with Homoeopathic medicines effectively. \nAvoidance of surgery and preservation of the uterus \nespecially in the reproductive age group is possible through \nthe homoeopathic mode of treatment. \n \n\nInternational Journal of Homoeopathic Sciences https://www.homoeopathicjournal.com \n~ 91 ~ \nReference \n1.
