Both the \nphysical examination findings and the results of the \nlaboratory investigations of the patient were unre-\nmarkable. A contrast magnetic resonance imaging of \nthe abdomen revealed pathological thickening of 1.5 \ncm in the middle segment of the rectum, and choco-\nlate cysts on both ovaries. The patient was referred \nfor colonoscopic evaluation with suspicion of infil-\ntrative endometriosis or colon neoplasm. An upper \nendoscopy and colonoscopy were performed while the \npatient was menstruating. An actively bleeding mass in \nsigmoid colon, partially restricting the lumen but al-\nlowing for the passage of the video colonoscope, was \nobserved (\nFigure 1). Biopsy specimens taken from the \nsigmoidal mass during colonoscopy displayed features \nconsistent with endometriosis. A definite diagnosis of \nendometriosis was made. The patient underwent surgi-\ncal intervention by sigmoid colon resection, hysterec-\ntomy, and bilateral oophorectomy. The patient’s \ncomplaints ceased on postoperative follow-up. \nTurkiye Klinikleri J Intern Med. 2023;8(2):71-2\n71\nIntestinal Endometriosis: \nA Rare Clinical Image of Sigmoid Presentation \nBağırsak Endometriyozisi: \nNadir Bir Sigmoid Prezentasyonun Klinik Resmi \n Şafak KIZILTAŞa, Mert Doruk BALa \naAcıbadem Mehmet Ali Aydınlar University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine, İstanbul, Türkiye\nORIGINAL IMAGE ORİJİNAL GÖRÜNTÜ DOI: 10.5336/intermed.2023-100210\nCorrespondence: Mert Doruk BAL \nAcıbadem Mehmet Ali Aydınlar University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine, İstanbul, Türkiye \nE-mail: mrtdrkbl@hotmail.com \nPeer review under responsibility of Turkiye Klinikleri Journal of Internal Medicine. \nRe ce i ved: 10 Nov 2023 Received in revised form: 17 Nov 2023 Ac cep ted: 30 Jan 2024 Available online: 31 Jan 2024 \n2458-8733 / Copyright © 2023 by Türkiye Klinikleri.
