{"paper_id":"add1ae05-26f4-4de8-a2ce-8488a611dc1e","body_text":"A CASE OF APPENDICEAL ENDOMETRIOSIS PRESENTING AS ACUTE APPENDICITIS\n1993 Volume 54 Issue 5 Pages 1281-1284\nDetails\nAbstract\nA case of appendiceal endometriosis presenting as acute appendicitis in a 47-year-old female is reported.\nThe patient visited the hospital because of abdominal pain in the right lower quadrant. She was diagnosed as acute appendicitis, and appendectomy was performed. There was turbid ascites in the Douglas cavity. The appendix showed inflammatory changes, especially at the tip. Histological observation revealed endometrial tissues with petechial hemorrhage and a growth of interstitial cells, mainly in the tunica muscularis, at the tip of the appendix.\nOnly 10 cases of appendiceal endometriosis including this case can be seen in the Japanese literature.\nThe patient visited the hospital because of abdominal pain in the right lower quadrant.
