{"paper_id":"abb7cbbe-8df8-4498-9193-2527b2b76abb","body_text":"Abstract\nRecent studies have provided much evidence to support the theory that endometriosis is actually a neoplasm and that affected cells can undergo malignant change. Women with endometriosis have a higher risk of certain types of ovarian cancer than the general female population [1]. Approximately 2.5 % of ovarian endometriosis turns malignant, but this may be an underestimation [2]. Studies have shown that Type 1 ovarian cancers such as clear cell carcinoma (CCC) and endometrioid adenocarcinoma (EAC) are associated with endometriosis [3]. Together, these carcinomas have been termed endometriosis-associated ovarian cancer (EAOC).
