{"paper_id":"7e080a13-8a48-4654-84a8-ab2dc6107010","body_text":"Abstract\nAdenomyosis is a benign penetration of the endometrium into the muscle layer of the uterus. Characteristically, there are endometrial glands and interstitial cell islands in the myometrium, accompanied by hyperplasia and hypertrophy of the surrounding smooth muscle tissue. Cullen in 1908 [1] studied 73 consecutive cases of adenomyosis; 56 cases were found to be connected to the endometrium, so it is generally accepted that adenomyosis comes from the endometrial glands and stroma. Although trauma to the endometrium lining is conducive to the invasion of the glands into the myometrium, to form the adenomyosis, it is difficult to explain why adenomyosis occurs in women who have not had uterine surgery, such as uterine curetting or myomectomy.
