A 42-year-old female with two-year history of periumbilical pain and gurgling during menstruation period was diagnosed to have endometriosis and successfully treated by hormonal therapy at the department of gynecology. Ten days after discharge, she was readmitted and referred to our department because of nausea and vomiting. Despite conservative therapy, her general condition became worse. Emergency surgery revealed an inflammatory tumor in the ileum 15cm from terminal ileum, and appendicitis. After appendectomy and resection of 20cm of the ileum, left adnexectomy and puncture of the right ovarian cyst was performed. We also reviewed 12 cases of endometriosis of the ileum reported in Japan. The patient group with the avarege of 36.3 years complained of abdominal pain (40%), vomiting (25%), and melena (10%); and commonly had medical histories. Besides the lesion in the ileum some of them had other lesions in the sigmoid colon, rectum, cecum, and appendix. Six patients had lesions in the uterus, ovary, and uterine tube. We should be careful attensions to differentiation from malignant tumor as well a the treatment of pelvic lesions.\n© Japan Surgical Association\nFavorites & Alerts\nRecently viewed articles","source_license":"CC0","license_restricted":false}
