{"paper_id":"718e961e-77aa-459c-82f0-e32bff01313c","body_text":"Abstract\nEndometriosis is a chronic, debilitating disease in women present during the most productive period of their lives. It causes severe pelvic pain, infertility, and intestinal dysmotility. Laparoscopy is the diagnostic modality of choice because a noninvasive alternative is not sensitive or specific. Delays in diagnosis and treatment are common. Medical management is reserved for early-stage disease. Surgery with excision of the nodules of endometriosis is the current standard.
