Traditional therapy options are followed by a high relapse rate and produce a wide range of side effects. For this reason, alternative methods of treatment, such as the application of phytopharmaceuticals, are steadily gaining ground in practical therapy concepts. These alternative therapy options are rated by affected women as an effective complement to “classic” endometriosis therapy. In the treatment of endometriosis-related ailments the application of extracts of Devil’s Claw root – Harpagophytum procumbens – merits special mention. This phytopharmaceutical has been shown to inhibit the biosynthesis of the inflammatory factors – cytokines, leukotrines and thromboxane – and also the production of prostaglandin E2. Because of these anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects, Devil’s Claw extracts can be regarded as a primary therapy option for endometriosis for carefully selected indications.\nSimilar content being viewed by others\nLiteratur\nAilawadi RK, Jobanputra S, Kataria M et al.
