Uterus\nalso known as “Womb” is a muscular, bag like organ which holds the\nembryo later fetus for the whole gestation period till birth. Uterus not\nonly makes a woman fertile, it also holds endocrine functions which\nare very much important for balanced hormonal conditions of a\nfemale. Various medical conditions require hysterectomy for\nexample, uterine cancer, uterine fibroids, endometriosis, prolonged\nheavy vaginal bleedings, adenomyosis and adherent placenta. It is the\nleast option to be selected when there is no option to treat the\nundergoing medical condition. Although most of the hysterectomies\nare performed in aged women having age above 40 or 50 where all or\nmost fertile life has been passed, but it is also common in young\nwomen who suffer severe life threatening medical condition like\nadherent placenta (placenta previa or accreta) in which placenta is\nabnormally implanted deeply in the uterine wall and may attach to\nurinary bladder. There are many types of hysterectomies which are\nadopted depending upon the medical issues for example, abdominal,\nvaginal, radical or subtotal. Hysterectomy leads a woman no longer\nable to reproduce, arrival of possible side effects including weight\ngain, facial hair growth and no estrogen formation if ovaries are also\nremoved. Most of females refuse for hysterectomy until the doctors\nexplain there is no way out. The need of this operation is a major\nshock for most of women while relief for some elderly women. Many\nmyths are associated with this problem. Women feels loss of\nwomanhood. Anxiety, emotional disturbances after hysterectomy\ncan lead to post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). This risk is more\ncommon in young females who are in their fertile ages.\nReferences\n.\nDownloads\nPublished\nHow to Cite\nIssue\nSection\nLicense\nCopyright (c) 2020 PJHS (Pakistan Journal of Health Sciences)\nThis work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License.\nThis is an open-access journal and all the published articles / items are distributed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution License, which permits unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original author and source are credited.
