{"paper_id":"4a5757e3-8063-4534-9b9d-bbb50f20fd5c","body_text":"Abstract\nFertility in adolescents with endometriosis is usually a future concern rather than a current problem. Questions regarding future fertility are frequently asked by the teenagers who are diagnosed with endometriosis or by their parents. In the absence of reliable data, assumptions based on data from adult women are used to answer these. Young women with endometriosis are likely to have an increased risk of infertility, but the majority of them will be able to have successful pregnancies. Chances of pregnancy are likely to be higher in those patients with minimal or mild endometriosis. It is currently unknown if surgical treatment of adolescent endometriosis improves future fertility. Adolescents who have many years ahead of them before they become menopausal have a significant risk of recurrence, and repeat operations may be required. Surgery, particularly repeat surgery, can be potentially detrimental to fertility due to reduced ovarian reserve or pelvic adhesions. Medical treatment as an adjunct to surgery may potentially be beneficial by reducing recurrences.
