{"paper_id":"425180cb-df73-4255-bb94-f692cc567229","body_text":"Abstract\nLaparoscopic laser surgery was first performed in the United Kingdom at St. Luke’s Hospital in Guildford in October 1982. The initial idea was inspired by observations on cervical healing following colposcopic treatment of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) with the carbon dioxide laser. Since most of the cell debris was removed as smoke in the laser plume, healing occurred with no contracture or anatomical distortion, and 6 weeks later healing was usually so perfect that even with the magnification provided by the colposcope it was difficult to see the site of the original laser surgery. This was in marked contradistinction to the scarring and fibrosis caused by electrodiathermy and cold-knife cone biopsy.
